Visa Wellington On a Plate

2012 – 2023

Client: Wellington Culinary Events Trust (WCET)

Location: Wellington

Visa Wellington On a Plate (Visa WOAP) was created in 2009 by Grow Wellington and Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) to support the Wellington region’s hospitality industry during the quiet winter months and to build Wellington’s position as the Culinary Capital of New Zealand.   Visa Wellington On a Plate is now the largest food festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

Specific challenges were around managing the many moving parts and immovable deadlines liaising with over 300 industry participants – to pull a complicated programme of more than 150 events and more than 200 participating restaurants.

Working to PWT in the first years of the Festival, our task was to provide project management of all logistics including creation and management of the application process, print production of the festival programme, and managing liaison between ticketing and industry participants. Our service included planning and delivery of an industry launch for 400 people, as well as health and safety advice for the programmed events.

We have been the delivery partner of Visa Wellington On a Plate every year since 2012. Our role has changed as the Festival has grown and the Wellington Culinary Events Trust was established, but the annual nature of this contract is testimony to our delivery and to the successful delivery of our key performance indicators.

With such a complex festival such as Visa Wellington On a Plate, Avenues has worked hard for over 10 years alongside WCET to deliver a logistically challenging event with many moving parts. Our role has changed significantly over the years, and we’ve adapted to whatever the needs of the festival and our clients have been. The results speak for themselves, a hugely popular and successful culinary festival which we are very proud to have been involved with for so long.
